Bulgakov's sophiology: towards an Orthodox economic theological engagement with the modern world. [REVIEW]Josephien H. J. Kessel - 2012 - Studies in East European Thought 64 (3-4):251-267.
Contemporary scholarship interprets Sergej Bulgakov's sophiology as an engagement of Orthodox theology with the modern world and as being on its way to becoming a political theology. In this paper I undertake a re-evaluation of the kind of engagement sophiology was and was intended to be, and of the kind of world it was destined for. It will be argued that sophiology was not so much a political-theological engagement with the world concentrating on the relation of religion and politics or (...)

  6. Intelligent Plagiarism Detection for Electronic Documents.Mohran H. J. Al-Bayed - 2017 - Dissertation, Al-Azhar University, Gaza
Plagiarism detection is the process of finding similarities on electronic based documents. Recently, this process is highly required because of the large number of available documents on the internet and the ability to copy and paste the text of relevant documents with simply Control+C and Control+V commands. The proposed solution is to investigate and develop an easy, fast, and multi-language support plagiarism detector with the easy of one click to detect the document plagiarism. This process will be done with the (...)

    Revolutions, Systems and Theories: Essays in Political Philosophy.H. J. Johnson, J. J. Leach & R. G. Muehlmann - 1979 - Springer.
In spite of the seeming heterogeneity of topics in its title - Revolutions, Systems, and Theories - this volume purports to be something more than a random collection of Essays in Political Philosophy. The Colloquium of the Philosophy Department of the University of Western Ontario (29-31 Octo ber, 1971) at which initial versions of the first eight papers were delivered was entitled 'Political Theory'; and while the organizers anticipated and indeed welcomed topicality in the issues accorded priority arid in the (...)

    Categories and Comparisons of Artworks.H. J. Pratt - 2012 - British Journal of Aesthetics 52 (1):45-59.
The degree of justification for a judgment of artistic value is normally directly proportional to the size of the comparison class that is brought to bear in making that judgment. If that comparison class is very small or nonexistent, justified judgments are unlikely or impossible. So which artworks, if any, are comparable? The claim that evaluative comparisons can be made among artworks within a fine-grained category—abstract expressionist paintings, for example—is relatively uncontroversial. But is there any way that we can compare (...)

The views of genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic users on unlinked anonymous testing for HIV: evidence from a pilot study of clinics in two English cities.J. Datta, A. Kessel, K. Wellings, K. Nanchahal, D. Marks & G. Kinghorn - 2011 - Journal of Medical Ethics 37 (11):668-672.
A study was undertaken of the views of users of two genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics in England on unlinked anonymous testing (UAT) for HIV. The UAT programme measures the prevalence of HIV in the population, including undiagnosed prevalence, by testing residual blood (from samples taken for clinical purposes) which is anonymised and irreversibly unlinked from the source. 424 clinic users completed an anonymous questionnaire about their knowledge of, and attitudes towards, UAT. Only 1/7 (14%) were aware that blood left over (...)

Accounting for the Costs of Contact Tracing through Social Networks.J. Littmann & A. Kessel - 2014 - Public Health Ethics 7 (1):51-53.
This article critically engages with Mandeville et al.'s case discussion of using social networking services for the purposes of contact tracing in infectious disease outbreaks. It will be argued that their discussion may be overstating the utility of such approaches, while simultaneously underestimating the ethical concerns that arise from this method of contact tracing. The article separates between ethical and technological concerns and suggests that due to the particular design of networking sites such as Facebook and the usage patterns of (...)

    The conditioning model of neurosis.H. J. Eysenck - 1979 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 2 (2):155-166.
The long-term persistence of neurotic symptoms, such as anxiety, poses difficult problems for any psychological theory. An attempt is made to revive the Watson-Mowrer conditioning theory and to avoid the many criticisms directed against it in the past. It is suggested that recent research has produced changes in learning theory that can be used to render this possible. In the first place, the doctrine of equipotentiality has been shown to be wrong, and some such concept as Seligman's “preparedness” is required, (...)

Although the view that punishment is to be justified on utilitarian grounds has obvious appeal, an examination of utilitarianism reveals that, consistently and accurately interpreted, it dictates unjust punishments which are unacceptable to the common moral consciousness. In this rule?utilitarianism is no more satisfactory than is act?utilitarianism. Although the production of the greatest good, or the greatest happiness, of the greatest number is obviously a relevant consideration when determining which punishments may properly be inflicted, the question as to which punishment (...)
